So they don't like the idea that the city wants help cleaning up the huge mess they have created? They're whining about missing out on overtime pay? You have got to be kidding me!
Get back to work. Clean up the garbage from the temporary dump sites so the neighbours can sit on their decks again. (And let some contract help come in and lend a hand.) And come pick up my month's worth of trash and green waste while you're at it. Before it all up and walks away on its own.
Thank heavens we've been lucky enough to not be near a dump site, and we're not reliant on city daycare or social services. But how many people have truly suffered because of this strike!
Temporary dumps have ruined parks and made yards unbearable. Pools and splashpads across the city have been closed. Attractions are closed. Camps shut down. Children's lessons and fitness activities cancelled. Teenagers have lost their summer jobs that they need for tuition in the fall. At risk youth have been left without programming and employment.
This is truly the summer that never was, with severely limited options for so many. I'm leaving town with my little one in a few days. Can't wait to get to somewhere more civilised for a couple of weeks.
