Milestones - First Concert

I woke to a super email on Friday - Rebecca from Bunch Family was writing to tell me I won a pack of 4 tickets to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live! at Ontario Place on Saturday. With passes for the VIP pre-show. Super cool!

And, as it turned out, it was super cold! Like late October cold and windy enough that the air show was cancelled at The Ex, and the 2pm Yo Gabba Gabba show was cancelled for fear the sets would fly away.  I've gotta say that piece of news didn't thrill me after driving down from Scarborough and paying $25 for parking! But we went in for the VIP party and our 5pm show went ahead as planned. The 2pm tickets were honoured at it too, which was great for those who missed out earlier.

The Gabba crew were at the VIP party for photo opps. I think every child there lined up and got his or her picture taken with them. Except for mine. Apparently he found the characters a little intimidating in person. "I only like them on TV, Mommy!"  Alrighty then.  Little Boo did enjoy the music, fruit tray, and the popcorn I bought him.
He even more enjoyed the balloons that made the room into kind of a big ball pit. Much fun!

We were dressed for the cold, so didn't have a problem at the show. Little Boo danced up a storm and laughed and squealed and had a blast. Mommy really enjoyed the show too, to be honest. It was a lot of fun and very upbeat. And any show that features balloons, confetti and bubbles, you know will be a hit!

We bought a couple of souvenirs - a Plex talking flashlight ("Don't be afraid of the dark...") and the new CD.  Two balloons came home as well. And http://www.yogabbagabba.com/ has been a hot request at our house the last two days. He's in love!

As an added bonus, the Hot Wheels colour shifting car was at Ontario Place when we arrived. It was too cold to make the colour shifting work (all the water was freezing!) but he got to play with cars and received a free Hot Wheels Tshirt plus a "collector's guide." Also known as a menu for new toy requests for the next few months... He reads it like a book, so all is well.

And of course, we had free admission to The Ex grounds with these tickets. So we made our second trip of 2010 for some Tiny Tom's and a few games of chance. Little Boo played one of the darts games and won a stuffed dolphin all by himself! (Mommy was trying to hit the red star for a big prize, but the board was too hard and the dart wouldn't stick ... hmmmm)

All in all an amazing day. This was a super first concert experience for my little guy. If you can bring your wee ones to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live! in your city, I totally recommend it. Thank you so much Bunch Family for hosting this contest ... and for picking me :-)

  1. you are such a brave Mama on so many fronts. But I'm sure Little Boo will have many great memories of your day. :)

  2. Anonymous9:17 pm

Ugh, balloons! Just reading about them gives me the creeps and hearing that they came home with you gives me heart palpitations! Sounds like you both had a blast though! :)

  3. What a cool surprise for you and your son.

Seeing as you like contests, thought you might find this interesting - there's a great new sustainable travel contest to celebrate Cadbury Dairy Milk's Fair Trade certification. It'll make Fair Trade Certified chocolate easily accessible to Canadians.

The contest encourages people to make “Fair Trades” in exchange for a chance to win a trip for 4 to Ghana! The winner will get to see the impact of Fair Trade on cocoa farms in Ghana, Africa.

You can check it out at http://dairymilk.ca/fairtrade.

I love to know you're reading! What's on your mind?
