If I see someone in our building looking lost (it's a confusing place) I always make a point to stop them and ask if they are trying to find a particular office or person. Then I help them if I can, often walking with them at least part of the way.
I hold doors and elevators. (But not when someone's just that bit too far away. Cuz that just makes them feel like they have to hurry.)
I've passed a few coins to someone in a checkout line who was searching for the right change. I've handed parking receipts to another car entering the parking lot if I only used a little of my time.
And there are the more obvious things. I donate gently-used clothes and toys to a women's shelter, and make sure to contribute to toy drives at Christmas, and make regular contributions to charities.
All of these are little things that can add up to make a difference, and I hope some of my small actions have brought some smiles to some special faces. We can all find something to do to spread happiness in the world.
The Snack Pack Share a Smile Campaign
Snack Pack has created a fun campaign that both highlights their products and encourages us to take a little smile time for ourselves each day. In return for our "sharing smiles" through their Facebook page, Snack Pack is making monetary donations to Food Banks Canada. Every smile shared equals a $1 donation, with a goal to reach $20,000 by the holidays. They've just passed $14,000, and I'm sure we can help them reach their goal of 20K smiles shared and $20K donated to feed hungry families. It's hard to smile when you're hungry. Even harder when your kids are hungry. $20,000 of food to support food banks across the country will certainly create some smiles this holiday season.
Every bit helps.
Here’s how the campaign works:
- Log onto Facebook, look up Snack Pack Canada, Like the page, Share a Smile and:
- A $1 donation will be made on your behalf to, Food Banks Canada. You can also opt to Share a Smile, and Snack Pack will make the donation on behalf of one of your Facebook friends.
- You’ll receive a ballot into their weekly prize draw (you must register first)
- PLUS You’ll earn a point towards one of the fun Smile badges
You can also visit Food Banks Canada online, to either find a local food bank, or make a direct monetary donation of your own.
Disclosure - I am participating in the Snack Pack program by Mom Central on behalf of Conagra Foods Canada. I received a gift card as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.
