Over the course of this past winter I managed to put on a few unwanted extra pounds. My willpower is weak when it comes to carbs you see. Especially during the cold winter months comfort food for me comes in the form of pastas and breads. And I love to start my day with a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel and cream cheese. Yummy. If only carbs weren't so brutal on my waistline I'd be a happy girl.
I tried all three varieties today. Yup. Three bagels in one day. BUT, that amounted to only 300 calories, so I wasn't worried. I toasted a Multigrain and a Cinnamon Raisin this morning and tried each with light cream cheese. Both varieties tasted great and satisfied my carb cravings, but the Cinnamon Raisin was definitely my favourite. The sweetness of the raisins is a great taste in the morning. These Thin Bagels are indeed quite thin, so be careful when toasting. You don't want them to get too crispy.(Or maybe you do - to each her own!) I lowered my toaster setting by one notch and they turned out great. I will say that they were a little more difficult to fish out of my toaster because of their size, but that wasn't a big deal. My toaster is sized for regular bagels, so these guys moved around in there a little, but still toasted evenly.
For lunch I made a sandwich with mayo, lettuce, tomato and salami, on the White with Wholegrain. Fabulous sandwich! I am not a big fan of sandwiches usually, but the size of this bagel made for a good taste balance of fillings vs. bready exterior. And the bagel held the contents with no troubles, in spite of its thinness.
The bottom line for me? Dempster's Thin Bagels gave me the bagel taste I was looking for, sated my carb craving, and did it with less than half the calories and carbs I would get from my regular bagels. I'm all over that - anything that can help me control my caloric intake and start working on dropping some of this winter weight and keep it off, while still enjoying some favourite foods.
And a bonus? Because these bagels are thin and have only 100 calories each, they will make a great snack or breakfast for Little Boo. The size fits him and his appetite, and the thin profile makes them easy for his little mouth to bite.
Dempster's Thin Bagels are available in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada in the bakery sections of major grocery chains.
