Looking for something to do this weekend? In and around Scarborough area? You should think about checking out the Taste of Lawrence International Food & Cultural Festival, running Friday, July 8-Sunday, July 10.
This annual street festival is the brainchild of local councilor, Michael Thompson, and the Wexford Heights Business Improvement Area. It takes place on Lawrence Ave. E. in Scarborough, between Warden and Birchmount Avenues. Kind of like Taste of the Danforth, but a mini version, with shwarma instead of souvlaki. (Gosh do I ever love shwarma!!!!!) Actually, there will be at least one souvlaki stand, as well as Caribbean and Malaysian and North American (roasted corn, burgers and hot dogs) as well. And I see latkes and fajitas and ice cream listed too. Absolutely something for everyone.
Live entertainment on two stages, a midway presented by GTA Midways, a karaoke tent, vendors, lots of food from local businesses. It's not as big or busy as the Danforth version, but it is a lot of fun. Something I haven't seen there before, this year Canada Bubble will be there. For $10, your child can get 5 minutes inside their own bubble, where they can walk (or run, or tumble) on water. I couldn't find a website for this company, but there is a picture on the Festival website. For larger families, 3 kids can go for $20 or 2 kids for $15.
So, if you are looking for weekend inspiration, some by my 'hood and check this out. We'll be there Sunday morning soaking in the fun!
