Making Time For Play #KINDERMom

Do you make time for play every day? Or does playtime fall by the wayside in your crazy hectic schedule? Like it does for me.

I have to admit that I am not the best at letting go and making time to just relax and play with my kids. I have to actively remind my Type A, controlling, Capricorn personality that it's ok to have a messy floor and dishes in the sink, at least some times. I find it very hard to let go of the details of adult life and running a household in order to just enjoy. But I'm getting better.

Little Boo of course can find lots of ways to entertain himself. His wild imagination allows him to see opportunities for play and make-believe in all kinds of situations and objects. An oddly shaped piece of bark found on a walk becomes a snail. A collection of old buttons becomes pirate treasure for a special treasure hunt. Found objects, whether in the home or out are a great at stimulating young minds.

One of my favourite ways to fit in some extra playtime is to spend a few minutes in the school playground after daycare pick-up. It was hard for me to give in to this pleasure at first, since it's already late by then and we have a long drive home ahead of us. I just want to get on the road! But after a long day at the office, giving in to 10 or 15 minutes of fun, watching Little Boo interact with his friends, hearing their giggles and shouts, is a super way to de-stress. And it sets a good atmosphere for the rest of the evening. It's good for Mom and the kids to have this easy, relaxed playtime together. The best memories are often made from the simplest activities!

And of course, you can always combine a sweet treat with a little playtime by offering up a Kinder Surprise Egg to your wee one. Or just enjoy one yourself! The toys I like best are the ones that take a little work to get together. The planes and large animals in the 2012 collection provide a particularly challenging construction experience to share! You can see a sampling of the new toys on Kinder Canada's Facebook page.

While you're there, why not enter Kinder Canada's great promotion - 10 lucky Kinder fans will win a Kinder gift basket worth $200! The basket is filled with $100 of Kinder product plus a $100 gift card. The contest is open to Canadian residents only, and closes Oct 10. You can enter once a day. And keep an eye on the Facebook page for more great promotions coming up, and to join in the conversation with other fans on the wall.

Disclosure: I’m part of the KINDER® Mom program and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
