Recipe: Chocolate Rum Balls

Disclaimer: This is not my own recipe, so don't think I'm all that talented in the kitchen. This came from a Philadelphia Cream Cheese insert, I think from Homemaker's, eons ago. I make these every Christmas, some for us and some for gifts. They are super easy, if messy and a bit time consuming. Although the prep time is listed as 25 minutes, I think it's longer, particularly with the waiting for the mixture to chill.

And they are DELICIOUS!

Chocolate Rum Balls (from Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese)

Hubs likes them with icing sugar
Prep time = 25 minutes

1 125g pkg cream cheese, softened
1 cup blanched ground almonds
1 cup sifted icing sugar
1 teaspoon powdered instant coffee
¼ cup dark rum
3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

Blend cream cheese, ground almonds, icing sugar, coffee & rum; mix well.
Add melted chocolate.
Chill until firm enough to handle.
Roll mixture into 1 inch balls

Roll balls in coatings of your choice.
Makes about 3 dozen

Suggested coatings:
Chocolate sprinkles, holiday coloured sprinkles, toasted sliced almonds (slightly crushed), icing sugar, toasted coconut, cocoa (my favourite!)
