Pioneer Camps - Get Out and Enjoy!

We got our Scholastic book order brochures from school last week. It's hard to believe it's already time for the "Summer Reading" brochure, which was chock full of books about summer camp. Every page seemed to have at least one or two summer camp themed titles. I think this only underscores how important and exciting camp opportunities are for both kids and their parents.

Because of my positive experiences with summer camp, both for myself and for my Teen, I have happily signed on as a Camp Ambassador for Pioneer and Circle Square camps. In this second installment, I want to introduce you to the Pioneer Camps, and invite you to enter their contest to win a trip for two to Punta Cana. (Sweet!)
The Pioneer Camps are offered by the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, in four locations in central and western Canada: Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia. Each of the camps has its own special personality, but all offer a great community experience in a non-denominational Christian environment. Children of all backgrounds and faiths are welcomed, and "Campers at Pioneer never have beliefs or doctrine forced upon them; rather, they are invited to consider issues of life and faith from a Christian perspective and to judge for themselves." The judging for themselves part, in a supportive and open environment really appeals to me.

Ontario Pioneer Camp is the largest of the locations, and provides programming for children age 5 and up on 1200 acres of Muskoka waterfront. The camps offer so many different activities in and out of the water - swimming, kayaking, canoeing, archery, wilderness trips, overnight hikes, horesmanship (special registration), rock climbing - the list goes on!  This variety of activities really appeals to me - summer camp should be about trying new things, challenging yourself, growing, and making new friends.

The three core offerings are Adventure Camp (co-ed for ages 5-10); Girls Camps (7-16); and Boys Camp (7-16). But there are also special programs appealing to teens, and offerings designed especially for special needs campers. Genesis offers a new "extreme camping" activity each day (like whitewater rafting or rockface rappel) in small-group sessions. Woodland Challenge disconnects your kids from their technology and sets them out in the woods to get close to nature, hike, and learn how to build a campfire on their own.
Fuel is offered as a cap to the summer, held during the last week before school starts and including all the
fun activities camp has to offer, and combining them with special opportunities for worship and exploring your faith. More information, including dates and fees, for all of these programs is available on their website.

Now, For Mom and Dad:
Pioneer Camps is offering a fabulous contest this spring. They are giving away four prize packages including a free week at their camp (and other goodies), and one grand prize of a free week at camp PLUS a free week for two in Punta Cana. Pretty amazing hey?

They have also partnered with Crossroads and Mabel's Labels to offer discount coupons for all who enter this contest. AND they are offering a 20% discount on their summer camp fees for new campers. It's a great time to check them out.

This contest is open to Canadian residents (excluding Quebec) and runs until June 15, 2012. It is a Share & Win contest, so you can gain additional entries by sharing your personalised contest entry url with your friends and family. There are three easy share buttons displayed (Facebook, Twitter, Email) at the completion of your entry form. For full rules & regulations and prizing, click here.

I'll leave you with a little YouTube video from Ontario Pioneer Camp: 2010 Fuel - Ontario Pioneer Camp. How much fun are these kids having?!
