Cypher Kids Augmented Reality Cards #CBias #CypherKidsClub

In our techie household, we often turn to our devices for both entertainment and learning, especially when we are looking to keep our ADHD Little Boo engaged. The variety of websites, apps, and learning software that is available these days is truly astounding. And when you can sneak in a little pre-school learning disguised as play, particularly on the go, that is a real bonus.

Enter the Cypher Kids Club. Cypher Kids offers 3D augmented reality(AR)  learning cards, designed for ages 3 and up, that work with a free downloadable app on select Apple products.

The AR Cards are available in three sets: Numbers, Letters, and Wild Animals.  We opted for the Wild Animals, as Little Boo is a bit old for learning his numbers and letters at this stage. Although I would have loved these when he was younger. The Letters cards even have an audio component so you can hear the sounds each letter makes. But there is always more to learn about animals, and my guy is definitely interested. He was pretty excited to get started, especially since it meant time with Mommy's iPhone.

Each card has a full-colour animal image on one side and the 3D AR code on the other. To activate the 3D action of the cards, you simply open your App, choose an animal, and then point your camera at the code side of the matching card. Once you have captured your 3D image, you can move your device and view the animal without the card. The App for the Animal Cards has two modes - Exploration and Snapshots. In Exploration you will see the 3D image, hear the animal's sounds, and hear a narrator telling you all about the animal, where it lives, its size, habits, etc. There is quite a bit of information given and a lot to learn. In Snapshots mode you will see and hear the animal, plus you can use the camera button at the bottom of the screen to take a picture of your animal in any part of your actual, real-life setting.

Each card names the animal within the app, so your kids can learn the spelling of the animal name too.
Doesn't he look like he wants to jump out?

Here is a photo taken with the app, rather than the screenshots shown above. I think the parrot is pretty happy there on PJ's back. Good thing PJ doesn't notice him.
We thoroughly enjoyed these cards. Little Boo couldn't move through them fast enough to see all the 3D animation and learn the animal facts. There is great educational and entertainment value in these. For me, I am amazed at how the image, once captured, stays on your screen, and continues to move and engage. It is pretty cool!

This app is compatible with iPhone 3GS and later; iPod Touch 3rd generation and later; and the iPad; operating system iOS 5 or later. The cards can be purchased in select WalMart stores, where you will find them in the electronics section with other Apple accessories.
