Royal Agricultural Fair Nov 2-11

2012 marks the 90th anniversary of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. This year it will celebrate the anniversary during 10 days of entertainment, competition, and education, Nov. 2-11, at Toronto's Exhibition Place.  The Royal is the world's largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show, and really does have something for everyone. (Including shopping!)

For the younger set, you can check out the scheduled entertainment in the Family Fun Zone, which includes Rabbit Jumping each Saturday at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, & 3:30 PM. Rabbits race to compete with mini sized jumps created just for them!

Last year we really enjoyed the Pizza Pizza Petting Farm. There is food for purchase so you can feed the llamas, rabbits, goats, etc. The kids really have a blast getting up close to these farm animals and getting to touch and talk to them.

And of course, a highlight for kids of all ages is the President's Choice SuperDogs show. These adorable and athletic canines will be performing their races and tricks three times each day throughout the Fair.

Don't forget to check out the giant vegetable competition
Little Boo and I are planning to attend this Sunday. We are looking forward to all the animals, and to checking out an exhibit by the Grain Farmers of Ontario, "Grains in Your Life," highlighting the many, innovative uses of corn, soy and wheat. At this exhibit you and your kids will be able to:
  • Learn: how these grains impact our lives and economy
  • Interact: with grains onsite and discover how corn, soybeans and wheat go from field to furniture, candles, fabric cushions and more!
  • Explore: replica corn, soybean and wheat fields
  • Refuel: discover how corn and soy can be used as biofuels and in car parts
A full-sized bio-car will be in the exhibit for you to explore. Pretty cool, hey? I think it's really important for our city kids to understand how farms impact our lives - not only where our food comes from, but all of the other products that are derived from their harvests.

You can get full information on the Royal, the Horse Show, Competitions, etc., and even purchase your tickets in advance, online. A one-day Family Pass to the Royal (2 Adults and 2 Children) is $44. Individual tickets and group discounts are also available.

See you at the Royal!
