Disney on Ice - Worlds of Fantasy

We started off our holiday celebrations this year with a trip to the Rogers Centre to see the latest from Disney on Ice - Worlds of Fantasy. It was a great evening out for the family, as we were drawn into the fantasy worlds of four Disney favourites - Cars, The Little Mermaid, Pixie Hollow, and Toy Story 3. Notice a good mix of boy and girl favourites here to entertain everyone.

And of course, Mickey, Minnie and the gang made numerous appearances as well. It wouldn't be a Disney show without these stars.

The first act included performances by the gang from Radiator Springs, Ariel's undersea world, and Tink and her crew from Pixie Hollow. The second act was devoted to a full re-telling of Toy Story 3. All of these involved stunning displays of figure skating and gorgeous costumes and scenery. Props kept appearing around the edges of the stage, and the fact that I never saw them being placed speaks volumes for how the show kept me focused on the ice action.

When Ariel skated out onto the ice, every little girl in the audience reacted with a big intake of breath. It was so exciting! The undersea world was beautifully captured by the skaters, as was the wonder of Pixie Hollow. These were my favourite parts of the show.

I asked Little Boo what he liked the most, and he immediately said Toy Story 3. We had seen Toy Story 3 with Disney on Ice a couple of years ago, so Hubs and I weren't as captivated this time. I did notice that certain parts weren't as scary as the first time we saw it. The scene with the daycare kids coming in wasn't as terrifying as before, I think because the lighting has been changed. That was good.  I'm including this picture from Andy's room to try to give a sense of how the scale of the set really worked to add to the fantasy aspect of the show. When Andy is playing with his toys as the second act opens, his room has a normal size desk and box. Then, when the toys have the room to themselves, the desk is suddenly huge, and the effect is amazing. The set change happened so invisibly, and then seeing the green army men next to the huge desk, you really get the feel that they are toys, and they look tiny! Very well done.

Look at that face! He was enthralled.
This is a wonderful show, with great production value. There is something for every Disney or ice skating fan to enjoy.
