Join in the Great Camp Adventure for Sick Kids #campforkeeps

I first went away to camp when I was maybe 7 or 8, for a weekend with Brownies. I participated in my first charity walk some 35 years later, just last fall. This coming fall, I can combine both experiences with the Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure, raising FUNds for The Hospital for Sick Children here in Toronto.

The event takes place September 28, 2013, beginning at Camp for Keeps headquarters at Fort York. The total length of the course is 20km, but individuals can choose to complete as much or as little of that distance as they wish. You can feel free to run, walk, skip, whatever! The important thing is to get involved and have fun.

What will make this a unique event is the family focus and camp-themed activities. All participants will be "campers" and can be part of teams, called "cabins." Families are encouraged to participate together, and the event is designed to include all ages. Strollers and wheelchairs welcomed!

Along the course there will be "campsites" situated every few kilometres. Each campsite will have its own name and activities, whether crafts, sports, sing-alongs, games, quiet time, or more. Personally, I'm a big fan of campfire songs, so I'll be looking for anywhere I can sing! (Be warned!) You can stay a while at a particular campsite to rest up, or, if you (or your little ones) have hit your limit for the day, you can hop on the camp bus to catch a ride back to Camp for Keeps. This event is at your pace and meant to be great family fun.

Doesn't this sound like a great way to spend a fall day being active with your kids? And it's such a great way to help SickKids as your FUNdraising dollars will support the hospital’s most urgent needs. You can request more information on the walk, or register, here. Adults pay a registration fee of $65 and agree to raise a minimum of $500. Kids 3-17 register for $35 and must raise at least $150. Children under 3 have no registration fees or fundraising requirements.
