McHappy Day is Wednesday, May 8th #McHappyDay

When Little Boo spent his first 15 days in the NICU, we were lucky. Since we live in Toronto our infant was able to be cared for close to home, and we were able to come home to sleep each night after spending our days with him in hospital. So many families are not so lucky, and their children have to travel far from home to attend a specialised hospital for their illnesses. For those families, Ronald McDonald Houses provide a much needed home away from home so that parents and siblings can stay together and be near their loved one undergoing care.

Did you know that more than 10,000 families stay at a Ronald McDonald House each year?

McDonald’s Canada covers all of  the administrative and operating costs for Ronald McDonald House Charities, making it possible for 100% of every directly donated dollar to go to Ronald McDonald Houses and their programs. In addition, since 2004, McDonald's restaurants have donated 10 cents from every Happy Meal sold to RMHC (over $34 million to date!), and coin boxes can be found in local McDonald's collecting for RMHC and other local charities.

The biggest fundraiser for RMHC is the annual McHappy Day. This year's event occurs on Wednesday, May 8th, at McDonald's restaurants across Canada. The following video provides a history of the event, as well as moving testimonials from some families who have stayed at Ronald McDonald Houses. Take a look.

Visit your local McDonald's on Wednesday, May 8th, to celebrate McHappy Day 2013. $1 from every Big Mac®, Happy Meal®, and Hot McCafĂ©® beverage you buy that day will be donated to Ronald McDonald Houses and other children's charities across Canada. Your fun and fast meal with your kids will help sick kids and their families across Canada.

Disclosure: In return for writing this post, a donation has been made on my behalf to RMHC. No compensation was received. All opinions on this blog, as always, remain my own.
