Ronald McDonald House Charities and the RBC Canadian Open

It's summer and we are well into the PGA Tour season. This week brings the tour to Canada for the RBC Canadian Open. Established in 1904, Canada's national open golf championship is the third-oldest national open golf championship worldwide next to the British Open and the U.S. Open.

This year, Ronald McDonald House Charities is the official charity partner of the RBC Canadian Open. Funds donated to RMHC through the RBC Canadian Open will help families of sick children across Canada.

Since coming on board as title sponsor of the RBC Canadian Open in 2008, RBC along with Golf Canada have raised more than $5 million for charitable organizations across Canada that support children’s wellness initiatives. Throughout its history, Canada’s National Open Championship has generated more than $45 million in charitable proceeds for important causes.

Naturally this is a great partnership for RMHC. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a much-needed support to the families of critically ill children across Canada - a home away from home while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital. Today, Canada is home to 14 Ronald McDonald Houses, 9 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and 1 Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
  • Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home for families of seriously ill children while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital.
  • Ronald McDonald Family Rooms create a calm, nurturing space within the walls of the hospital, allowing parents to be just steps away from their sick child's bedside.
  • Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a mobile health unit that enables free and easily accessible medical care for children and their families right in their own community.
By 2014, Ronald McDonald Houses will serve 20,000 families a year. Since the first House opened in Toronto in 1981, they have served over 227,000 families of sick children.

When our Little Boo was in the NICU for 2 weeks after his birth, we were lucky to be able to be with him every day, then head home every evening to our own beds. Most families aren't lucky enough to live this close to a major hospital, and the stress of being apart from your critically ill child is devastating. The financial stress of living in a hotel so you can be near them just adds more. Ronald McDonald Houses are a blessing to families in these difficult situations. RMHC keeps them going. Thank you to the RBC Canadian Open and Golf Canada for choosing this charity as your beneficiary this year!
