Keep Track of Your Usage & Save (Energy, Time & Money) with BC Hydro
What are some of the things you do each day to conserve energy? Are you aware of your energy consumption patterns? Are there areas where you could be saving more?
There are many little things we do in our household to conserve our resources - turning lights off when you leave the room, turning off the tap while you're brushing your teeth, remembering to turn off the furnace/AC when you decide to leave the windows open (I'm not so good at that one). We also use a programmable thermostat, and we don't cool or heat to the extreme. But I'm sure we could be doing more.
Customers with BC Hydro now have a new tool they can use to help them monitor their energy usage over time, compare it to previous usage, and even factor in variables such as outside temperature trends. The data provided will give hourly information on energy usage, and can predict the approximate amount of the next bill, based on current usage to that point in the cycle.
By signing up for the MyHydro service customers have online access to all of this information on their account. Plus, MyHydro also allows them to receive electronic bills rather than paper (better for the environment) and to set up bill payments online. Online account management saves time, while knowing where and when you are using the most energy can help you to reduce your consumption, thus saving both energy and money.
The hourly usage data can help you understand which actions are creating the most consumption. The graph might point to a peak in usage between, say, 7-8pm. So, ask yourself - what were we doing then? Follow up with BC Hydro's Power Smart tips to give you ideas on things you can do (or stop doing) that can help you to save even more.
Knowledge is power, right?
