Bedding, kitchen gadgets, desk lamps, and more all needed to be purchased for fitting out his room and small shared kitchen. And since he no longer has access to our electronics, we had to invest in those for him as well. A new laptop that would be fast enough and sturdy enough to handle the design software he'll be using, a printer, a TV/monitor combination so he can have a second screen to make his work easier, and also be sure not to miss the Broncos games. And all the assorted cables and accessories that go with those.
We were bound to miss something. Every school year there's sure to be something on the list the teacher sends home that you haven't thought of. But for us, we all found it a little hard to predict what might be necessary for our guy out on his own. Just the change from high school to college is certain to bring with it new requirements in school supplies. So, we told him to take note of things he's missing, and we'll figure out a way to get them to him.
One awesomely easy way to get his last-minute supplies to him in his new home away from home? Buying them online and having them shipped directly to him. Best Buy is our top choice for tech needs, and shopping with them online is a breeze. Last night I visited www.BestBuy.ca, and did a quick search for an extra-long iPad charging cord. I found and ordered a 6 foot model from Startech. The length allows for greater mobility, including lounging on the bed with your iPad to watch a movie while it's charging. And I threw in an external back-up battery to power his devices on the go. (He's in class until 8pm on Thursdays!)
Whether you need a laptop, printer, headphones, or cables, Best Buy is a great place to look. Search, add to cart, then check-out and enter your kid's new address for the shipping. Mom win!
Here's a special deal for you - until this Thursday, September 12, you can take advantage of a special promotion and get $15 cash back on a $150 purchase or $40 cash back on a $400 purchase when you use PayPal as your payment option at BestBuy.ca and #PayPalURTech (get it?)
So, I'm done with the shopping for now. Until he asks for printer ink or something. He seems to be settling in well and making friends. An he claims he didn't go out EVERY night last week. Just a lot of them. The first week away from home is a huge adjustment, and a lot of fun as well. Here's hoping the studying kicks in soon!
