Change Up Hallowe'en with Change for Kids

With Hallowe'en coming up next week it's time to put some serious thought into what we'll be handing out when the wee trick or treaters come calling. (Admit it - you already ate those mini chocolate bars you bought last week, right?) Candy and chips are big favourites with the kids, but there are alternatives, like Hallowe'en themed pencils, small tubs of playdoh, or mini bottles of bubbles. There are also options that give back and do some good in our community, while providing fun and potentially some awesome prizes for the recipients.

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital. Each year the hospital serves roughly 7,000 patients, from birth to 19 years old, who suffer from physical and developmental disabilities as well as ongoing, complex health needs. In 2012, Holland Bloorview launched a new fundraising idea for Hallowe'en, the Change for Kids program. It was a great success, and they've brought it back for 2013.

During October, $5 Change for Kids coin cards can be purchased either online or at any Scotiabank in the GTA as well as at select Rexall Pharma Plus, Spirit Halloween or Amazing Party & Costume stores.
Each card has 20 coins with unique PIN codes that can be handed out to trick-or-treaters for their chance to win prizes from retailers such as Toys“R”Us and Cineplex. The lucky grand-prize winner will receive a weekend stay for 10 families, including their own, at Niagara Falls’ Great Wolf Lodge!

Between November 1-17, kids can enter their PIN codes online to see what/if they've won. And, for every PIN code entered, Scotiabank will donate $5 to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, up to a maximum of $50,000! Change for Kids helps support the hospital’s highest priority needs: kids with autism, brain injuries and cerebral palsy among other physical and developmental disabilities. This is a great way to bring the spirit of giving to the Hallowe'en festivities.

Check out the Change for Kids website for all the details, or to purchase your coin cards today.
