The Toronto Zoo - Free for Kids this Weekend!
I don't know about you, but I have a four-day weekend coming up with Little Boo, since Friday is a PA day and Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving. Although he might be happy to play video games all weekend, that isn't going to happen, so I'm on the lookout for activities and events we can enjoy.
One of our favourite outings is a visit to the Toronto Zoo. We are members, so we do go fairly often, but there's so much to see and do there it never gets old. For non-members, the Zoo has great savings on right now, with free admission for kids, 12 and under, to visit the zoo on weekends and school holidays. This has been running since September 13, and continues through Monday, October 14, 2013. The new initiative will help to dispel the myth that the Zoo is only open during the peak summer months and that every season, including the fall, is a perfect time to visit. I actually really enjoy going during cooler months as many of the animals are more active, and the crowds aren't quite as big. I think this weekend should see a lot of great colours in the leaves as well.
Also, if you love the elephants, this is the time to see them once more before they head south. Sometime later this month they will be transferred to a new home, so I'm hoping to see them this weekend for one last farewell. I'll really miss them.
The Zoo is also Celebrating Fall with a series of special events Saturday-Monday, including guided photography walks, face painting, games, trivia, fall foliage tours, and special keeper talks with pumpkins for the animals. Check out the Toronto Zoo website for full event listings and times.
