One of my biggest challenges (aside from the just waking up part) is getting a sensible breakfast into Little Boo. He is as much opposed to mornings as I am (at least on school days) and he never has an appetite first when he gets up. By the time he's ready to eat, it's practically time for us to leave the house.
So, how do I feed my kid? Mostly with grab and go items. We have a long history of morning dashboard dining, and now eating on the walk to school. Something healthy and filling that he can grab and eat while he's getting dressed and finish up on our walk is ideal. When Ozery Bakery offered to send over some of their Morning Rounds for us to try, I saw a good chance to add something new to my morning arsenal.
Morning Rounds are breakfast pitas, available in four flavours - Muesli, all-natural multi-grain buns packed with mixed grains, sweet apples, raisins, sunflower seeds and flax seeds; Apple Cinnamon, all-natural healthy grain buns with chunks of dried apples and raisins, and sprinkled with a hint of cinnamon; Cranberry Orange, all-natural healthy grain buns full of sweet dried cranberries and juicy oranges; and Multi Grain, buns loaded with healthy flax seeds, sunflower seeds, oats, millet and variety of nutritious grains. They contain absolutely no artificial ingredients or preservatives, provide a source of fiber and iron, are free of saturated and Trans fats, lower in sodium, and are also Kosher and vegan.
All that sounds really good, and I appreciate that these pop so easily in the toaster and already are filled with fruit and/or seeds for nutrition. But how do they taste? Well, the package arrived on a Friday, so Saturday
morning I offered one to Boo for breakfast (Apple Cinnamon). He's a big fan of any bread product, so he said sure. About 10 minutes later he asked for seconds. Win! I had the Cranberry Orange, which was really yummy and tasted kind of festive.
Boo has been eating these a lot this week, and they really are filling, delicious and easy. One-handed, non-messy, easy to grab on the way out the door. We've just been toasting and eating them plain, as there's certainly enough flavour in them as is. But you could also easily top them with your favourite spread for an added morning boost.
