Family Day Fun 2014

Family Day really snuck up on me this year. But I'm not complaining! An extra day to play with my guys, and proof that we're into the second half of February already both sound good to me. If you are still looking for ideas on what to do this weekend, here are a few places to consider visiting around Toronto.

The Toronto Zoo

He's here! The Zoo's newest polar bear cub, who is quickly becoming a YouTube sensation with his
milestone videos, is now spending a good part of each day in his outdoor enclosure. We can finally get a look at this cute little guy in person, so why not bring your family to visit this polar bear family for Family Day. And remember, this little guy still doesn't have a name. You can vote for your favourite from a shortlist available at

Ontario Science Centre

There's lots happening at the OSC this weekend. The new special exhibit, Sesame Street Presents the Body is perfect for the preschool set, learning about the body, health and nutrition with all of their favourite characters. (You can see my pictures here.) The older kids will enjoy AstraZeneca's Human Edge, which delves into the wonders of the human body and our amazing athletes - a nice tie-in with the Olympics. Honda is also presenting "Science on 2 Wheels," which investigates the physics behind bikes and motorcycles. Visitors between 18 months and 5 years old are invited to learn new skills and practice balancing and body awareness in the "Strider Rider" area.

Evergreen Brick Works

On Monday, the Evergreen Brick Works is hosting a Family Skate Day, from 10am-4pm. Get outdoors and enjoy free public skating, special nature and heritage hikes, and a meet and greet with Vicky Sunohara, a three-time women’s ice hockey Olympian. Vicky will be giving out signed hockey pucks from 11am–1pm.
