Create Your Own Family Film Fest with Netflix this March Break

In my 20s, many aspects of my life revolved around the TV schedule. It was the era of NBC's "Must See TV" and there was no way I was going to miss "Friends" or "ER" on Thursday night. And of course, there was no going out on Friday until after "The X-Files" was over. It's strange to think about it now, being tied down to a TV schedule. I love my options for viewing my favourites at my leisure, when it suits me best. And I love binge watching series so I can really immerse myself in the story lines.

With my Netflix subscription, I've recently gone through 5 seasons of "Mad Men," and am now on to Netflix's own "House of Cards." I try to sneak in 1 or 2 episodes each night, or in the afternoon while Boo is at school. Now that he's home for March Break though, my Netflix viewing has shifted to more family-friendly fare, at least during the day.

There is an awesome collection of movies and shows in the Netflix Just for Kids zone, with options for preschoolers through pre-teens. So, if you need a break from outings, crafts, and day trips, why not butter up some popcorn and screen a little personal film fest in the family room? Settle in, select the kids zone, and enjoy! Here are a few suggestions for the older kids, but there's lots more on the site:

Even the younger kids can easily pick a show or movie to suit them. Just for Kids has the option to choose by character, where kids can click on a picture of their favourite, like Dora, Bubble Guppies, Clone Wars, or the Madagascar Penguins. And the shows are all depicted with a cover image, making them easy to recognise even for young non-readers.

So, settle in, grab your snacks, and choose both what and when you want to watch! I'm sure you and the kids will be entertained.

Disclosure: I am a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam program, and receive special perks as part of my involvement. I was not financially compensated for this post.
