Yesterday Boo and I popped into a department store for a quick errand, and were immediately greeted by a full-on attack of school supplies. My little darling was shivering in fear. I swear it! We made a quick dash past the pencils and backpacks and he breathed a sigh of relief. Clearly, he's not ready for summer to end, but the school bell will be ringing again before we know it.
With August comes the major rush to pick up all the must-haves for our kids to start off the school year. There are certain things we know they'll need - like a backpack, lunch bag, and indoor sneakers. I like to get his input on those to make sure they'll be loved. Last year he even came shopping with me, which was surprising but good. I tend to wait until after the first week of school to pick up anything else, because I like to see "the list" and ask the teacher what is really needed. Which types of binders and notebooks will they need to use? What is being supplied by the school? I'd rather not spend extra money on items that won't be used or don't fit the criteria of that particular classroom.
Did you know that, on average, teachers spend about $1,000 of their own money just to make sure their students have the resources they need to learn? Those classrooms are largely put together by the individual teachers, and their budgets from the school board aren't big. It can be an expensive endeavour to set up properly for an optimal learning experience for the students. To help out, Great Clips hair salons have teamed up with AdoptAClassroom.org for a special funding drive.
How can you help? For every download of their check-in app (lets you check in and get on the list at your chosen salon before you arrive), Great Clips will contribute to AdoptAClassroom.org, up to a maximum of $20,000. These funds will be used to support teachers in setting up and maintaining their classrooms, purchasing the necessary supplies to give kids the best possible learning experience.
Great Clips has already fulfilled two teachers' wish lists. Want to see what a difference they've made? Head on over to the #GreatList site to see the full video of the classroom makeover. And while you're there, don't forget to download the Online Check-In app!
But Great Clips doesn't want to help just teachers. They want to help you with your back-to-school list too! Visit the #GreatList contest page and upload or type in your own school supply list. Great Clips will randomly choose a winner each day, who will get their back-to-school supply list shipped to their front door for free (up to $100 value). Contest is open to US and Canadian residents (excluding Quebec) and runs until September 5, 2014.
Plus, all #GREATLIST contest entrants receive a $2-off Great Clips coupon with their confirmation email the first time they submit a school supply list. One coupon per customer. A great way to save on getting that fresh new look for back to school.
