Christmas Traditions with Kinder Surprise {Giveaway}

Hallowe'en has passed, and I've started to think about Christmas already. This afternoon I had the gift planning chat with my mom. What to get for my dad, what they can get for Boo. Don't get me wrong. I'm not ready to decorate or anything. That won't come until December arrives, but it's time to start planning and shopping. And baking. MMMM baking.

Santa loves my rum balls & shortbread too.
Food is always a big part of any holiday, and there are certain baked goodies that are a critical part of our Christmas traditions. For instance, I always make my buttery shortbread and famous chocolate rum balls. And Christmas isn't Christmas for my husband without his mother's sugar cookies. She always sent us home from her place with a big cookie tin full of goodies, and the sugar cookies were always the first thing he dove for. The tradition of baking them has now passed to me, and I'm working on perfecting them. I'm not there yet, but I'm up for the challenge.

The one thing I'd love to try making is dark fruit cake. I know I'm in the minority, but I love it. My grandmother and her sister both made amazing fruit cake and I miss it so much. But the process of making it myself is really daunting. I'm settling for store-bought for now, but one day I'll get there.

Of course, there's lots of food items I don't have to bake that are also important in our holiday celebrations. We always have clementines, and chips & dip. And the stockings are always well stuffed with candy canes, marshmallow Santas, and Kinder Surprise.  Not just because I'm a Kinder Mom either. I've always put a Kinder egg, or one of the special holiday packages in the boys' stockings. Great chocolate, fun toy. What's not to love? They make a perfect stocking stuffer.

Kinder is all about bringing a little joy and a smile to your day, and this fall they will be at The Royal Winter Fair in Toronto from November 7-16, with their Smile Booth.  Be sure to look them up if you're at the Fair and get some fun pictures with your family. Meanwhile you can still upload your own pictures and create a photo booth strip on the Kinder Canada Facebook Page.
