HGG2014: Get Your Superhero on with Hasbro's Line of Captain America Gear {review}

'Fess up. You dreamed of being a superhero when you were a kid, didn't you? Excitement and special powers and crime fighting. It's all pretty alluring. Playing superheros was a favourite pastime when I was in elementary school, and I don't think much has changed. Except that now the kids have access to super cool gear they can use for dress-up superhero play!
Check out my little Captain America
Hasbro has a great line of Captain America role play gear that is timely with the excitement around the release of  Marvel's "Captain America: Winter Soldier" earlier this year. Captain America and all his fellow Marvel heroes are hot right now.

Boo has been trying out the Stealthfire Shield and Battle Helmet, having a great time striking poses and shooting darts.

The Marvel Captain America Super Soldier Gear Stealthfire Shield has a little surprise for the enemies - just pull on the handle and the centre of the shield pops up to reveal 4 dart launchers, armed with 4 Nerf N-Strike Elite foam darts. The darts shoot up to 20 feet, and the launchers automatically retract once they've fired. This shield also features a rail system attachment for other Super Soldier Gear items (each sold separately) to customize your shield for battle.

Pair this up with the Marvel Captain America Super Soldier Gear Battle Helmet for even more fun. The helmet includes a button-activated light-up visor and a missile-firing projectile rocket launcher. Shoot right from your helmet just by pressing a button! The helmet also has a rail system, allowing the launcher to be connected in three different areas. Additional attachments are also available for purchase to further customize your helmet. This one requires 2 AAA batteries for the light-up visor, so be sure to include those when gifting.

Rated for ages 5 and up, the Stealthfire Shield and Battle Helmet each retail for approximately $24.99.

Both of these got a big thumbs up from Boo, even without the add-ons, but for reference, you can also get the Recon Rangefinder and/or Dualshot Gauntlet accessories for approximately $9.99 each. These attach via the rail system. Oh! And the Dualshot Gauntlet needs 2 AAA batteries.

The whole Marvel line from Hasbro should appeal to the school-aged boys on your list this year. If role play is not their thing, try the line of action figures in 3.75, 6, or 12 inch models. They even have Marvel superhero options for the toddlers and preschoolers in your life.
