HGG2014: V-Moda XS Headphones {review}

Last year, everyone here got headphones. Hubs and the Teen got high-end ones, and Boo got kid-friendly ones that I wouldn't cry if (when!) he broke them. I've been looking around for a pair of good headphones of my own. It's great to be able to tune out and watch some Netflix on the tablet without disturbing anyone else, who might be currently watching Pokemon or Spongebob. I didn't want big, bulky ones, but I didn't want earbuds either. They never stay in my ears. I needed on-ear or over-ear. Or "old school" as I like to call them.
And then I received an email offering me the V-MODA XS On-Ear Metal Noise-Isolating Headphones to try out. XS? As in extra-small? Let's give it a go.

First off, look at the packaging. The XS comes in a super sturdy box with soft leatherette accents and metal studs. And that's just the start of the attention to detail and high quality that goes into these.

The headphones sit on-ear and are padded with memory foam for a comfortable and snug fit. The snug factor aids in blocking out external sound, and in providing the best listening experience. I am no expert in sound quality, but I can say that the clarity and fullness of the audio is awesome. (For the true audiophile there are lots of online reviews to check out to get the technical details.)

The Kevlar-reinforced microphone cable doesn't tangle and is designed for universal smartphone compatibility. A single button allows you to accept calls while listening to music on your phone. A neat feature of this model is that is has jacks in both ear pieces, so you can connect with a friend to share your audio. You plug in to the audio source, and they can plug their headphones right into yours! V-Moda includes covers for the jacks to keep them dust-free when not in use.

Perhaps my favourite feature of the XS is the size and portability. The headphones fold into themselves for storage or travel, and then fit into their exoskeleton carrying case. The carrying case is sturdy for great protection, has a flap over the zipper to keep out dust, and a carabiner clip to attach to a bag or belt or wherever. The case was also designed with two small loops, which are apparently there in anticipation of new accessories on the way - a clutch-length and full-length fashion strap for carrying like a purse. Convenient and pretty :)

The XS is made up of a combination of steel and metal materials, and has been tested to military-level standards of durability. Durability is important to me, as I want to get my money's worth from my purchase. Also important is the brand's emphasis on style and creating a product that looks as good as it sounds. The V-Moda XS has a slim profile, lovely detailing, and won't look bulky and out of place on your head. These would be a great gift for the music lover, any teen on your list, or any gal looking for a fashionable headphone option.

The V-MODA XS is available from for $230.00 CAD, or for $212 USD, and comes with a two-year warranty.
