I'm cold. And I'm never cold, so this is really weird for me. The time had to go and "fall back," so the days are shorter. The winds are wilder, the skies grayer. Cold and flu season has begun. November is just not a fun month. December has the holidays, January has my birthday and pretty snow. February is cold and gloomy, but short, and the days are longer. November really is my least favourite month. But we've got to soldier on and find ways to light it up a little. They say laughter is the best medicine, right? Maybe that's the way to get me out of this November funk.
When I'm in this mood, I just want to curl up on the couch with my blanket and watch movies. And I love when my little guy will curl up with me. But I'm finding it more difficult to convince Boo to join me in this, as he gets older. He'd usually rather play a video game or watch YouTube videos of other people playing video games. (What is up with that anyway?) So when I want his company, or when I see that he could use a good laugh too, I offer up one of his favourite kid-friendly comedies. Lucky for us, Netflix has lots to offer. Here are their suggestions for lightening up your November days:
1. Shrek Forever After
2. Cloudy with aChance of Meatballs
3. Despicable Me
4. Dr. Suess' The Catin the Hat
5. Kung Fu Panda 2
6. Mr. Popper'sPenguins
The only one here we haven't watched yet is Mr. Popper's Penguins, so I should line that up for this weekend. The Shrek titles are always great for a laugh, especially for little boys, given the number of stinky fart jokes and such. I personally love Despicable Me and all things Minion. Those little yellow guys make me howl! And who doesn't get a laugh from Steve the monkey, with his monkey thought translator, in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs?
When you need a little cheering up this month, or whenever during the winter blahs, why not check out one of these titles and let yourself forget about the cold and dark for a couple of hours? Make some buttery popcorn too while you're at it. That should fix you and your wee ones up for a while!
