A couple of months ago I was at a trade show, and I got convinced to visit a booth selling flat irons to have my hair done. I suspected I knew what the outcome would be, and I was right. The gal straightened, curled, and straightened again my hair. And it looked awesome. I was sold on the spot and came home with a great deal on my first ever flat iron. Who knew that my already straight hair could look so much better if I straightened it more?!
The thing is, although my hair is straight (I might even say limp, lifeless), it tends to the dry, fly-away problem. The individual strands may lack any definition, but they don't all lie in the same, tame direction. The flat iron takes care of that for me, and I've had so many compliments when I use it. But I worry about damaging my hair with too much heat and styling.
Yesterday I visited the Beauty Supply Outlet (BSO) to see what they had to say about it. I was served by the Manager at the Markham store, Lina, and she was super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. My main concern was to protect my hair and perhaps even improve the performance of the flat iron. She looked at my hair and led me straight to MoroccanOil. She suggested the Heat Styling Protection and explained to me how to use it. This one is light enough for my fine hair, so it won't weigh me down.
I asked about brushes as well, for when I want to get some volume and waves. Lina gave me a training session on the different types of brushes and recommended the right size for me. I opted to go for a round, boar bristle brush, even though it is more prone to tangling, because it does a great job bringing the natural oils from your scalp down through your hair.

BSO has a great selection of tools and polishes for manis and pedis.
This was my first visit to a BSO, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I found was a fantastic selection of brands and lots of great deals, in addition to the well-trained staff.
Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Bed Head, Joico, Matrix, Chi, OPI - all the big beauty brands are here. BSO also carries specialised lines for different hair types, including Mixed Chicks for curly hair, as well as children's and even pet lines of hair care.

|This Red Hot Deals poster greeted me on the way in. |
There were three of them actually, all with different deals.
The name, Beauty Supply Outlet, always made me think it was a special place just for stylists and aestheticians. But the BSO is open to anyone to take advantage of their selection and great pricing. For me the big thing was being able to talk to someone who knew their stuff and could get the right products into my hands to address my specific issues with my hair. It gets super confusing reading all those labels on so many similar, but different, products. I need the guidance I can get here.
You can stay in the know and keep up to date on the latest Red Hot Deals by signing up for BSO's bi-monthly newsletter. And why not connect with them on Twitter and Facebook too.
