It's the last day of 2014, and folks the world over are preparing to stay up late and count down to the new year at midnight tonight. Some have elaborate plans to be out on the town, while others will be celebrating at home with family and friends. And many wee kiddies will be begging their parents to let them stay up and join in the midnight fun.
Netflix Canada had Leger Marketing survey Canadian parents to ask them how they planned to celebrate New Year's Eve with their kids. Turns out that in spite of the begging, 42% say they won't let their children stay up until midnight. 35% of parents said they would adjust the clocks in order to celebrate the New Year earlier, and 30% would be looking for a countdown from a different time zone.
I've done that last one. Being from Newfoundland, I've had my kids count down on Newfoundland time - 90 minutes before the Ontario countdown. It was an easy sell with so much family still there counting down at the same time. I think families on the west coast are super lucky in this - they can use the big Times Square countdown a full 3 hours early. You may also be able to find local celebrations geared to families that include an early countdown for the kids. In Scarborough, for instance, both the civic centre and Toronto Zoo have early family countdowns.
For those of us who want to stay home and stay warm though, Netflix Canada has a fun countdown answer that we can time for whenever we want, all thanks to King Julien.
"I was totally bummed when I heard that some of my favorite little party people weren't allowed to stay up until midnight for the biggest party of the year," said King Julien, King of the Lemurs. "But then I realized I'm king, I make the rules! So move over, Ryan Seacrest, I've got my very own on-demand countdown party on Netflix. That means the New Years Eve party is always on - just how it should be! What better way to ring in Julien-uary?"
That's right! The star of the new Netflix series "All Hail King Julien" and original party animal, has his own three-minute NYE Countdown party ready to stream when you are ready to celebrate. High-energy musical fun will make your kids feel part of the magic of New Year's Eve, even if you bring the noisemakers out at 8pm.
And if the kids want more of this crazy Lemur, check out the first 5 episodes of his new series, available now on Netflix. We've watched them all and definitely recommend. Actually, if you want to hear what Boo thinks of the series, in his own words, check out this video from the screening event we attended earlier this month.
