HGG2014: Transformers Age of Extinction Toys from Hasbro

Boo spent a long time playing with the Transformers Age of Extinction Chomp and Stomp Grimlock at the Hasbro holiday preview this summer.  He has now officially requested that Santa bring one for him to play with at home, and he's super stoked to see what happens Christmas morning. Actually, my gift guide is starting to feel like Boo's gift guide, which is appropriate I guess. Who better to ask about kid's gifts than another kid? I'll get into some more grown-up ideas soon, promise!
Chomp and Stomp Grimlock is a big guy, standing about 20 inches tall. As a robot he wields a huge sword (automatic points with Boo), and you can transform him easily into the menacing dino above with one easy step. Yes, I said easy. The transforming part has traditionally kept me away from buying Transformers toys, since I've generally found them too complicated, at least for me. This guy is simple and Boo figured it out super quick. He was demonstrating for the grown-ups there actually. See how the sword becomes the tail? Awesome Transformers battles to ensue ...

Grimlock's eyes light up and there are various weapons, sounds and lights that are activated when you add other figures (sold separately). The toy does come with an Optimus Prime mini-figure, and is fitted with demo batteries to at least get you through Christmas morning if you forget to pick some up. (Requires 2 AAA.) Rated for ages 5 and up.

If your child is more into building than fighting, try the Transformers Age of Extinction Construct-Bots Dinofire Grimlock & Optimus Prime Set.
The set includes 79 building pieces, plus instructions so you can build your Dinofire Grimlock in either robot or dino mode (10 inches tall). If you build Optimus Prime in robot mode, he can ride the Dinofire Grimlock. Bonus? Light-up firebreath launcher. Launching missiles at your foes is always a hit around here. I like the added play factor of building your toy first before you launch it into action. This one use A79 cell batteries, which are included. Ages 7 and up.

If you have a young fan of the new Transformers movie on your list, either of these would be great options. You can check out the whole line of Hasbro's Transformers toys on their website.
