Bringing the Beach Indoors - Toronto's North Beach Volleyball #NorthBeachTO {Giveaway}

Baby, it's cold outside. I know that isn't news, but boy did I ever appreciate my snow pants for walking Boo to school this morning. Luckily for us we'll be heading to sunny California next week, to enjoy 10 days of much milder weather. I. Can't. Wait.

Meanwhile, I did get to sink my toes into some lovely sand last week. That's right my friends - toes in the sand in December in Toronto. Needless to say I was comfortably indoors, at North Beach Volleyball in Don Mills.

We may not have been skilled, but we had a blast!

North Beach is located on Railside Rd., right at the junction of Lawrence Ave. East and the DVP, making it super easy to get to. The facility opened in 1993 as the first year round indoor sand volleyball facility of its kind in Canada. Open 7 days a week, it provides active fun for kids and adults of all ages, offering drop-in play, birthday parties, court rentals, leagues and tournaments, lessons and more. Plus there's a restaurant

We actually held a birthday party for the Teen here many years ago. The kids had a blast playing in the sand - a combination of volleyball instruction plus a game, along with a variety of other active games in the sand. North Beach can even arrange a dig for buried treasure or fossils for your crew. One hour of fun on the beach is followed by one hour of fun in the party room where you can enjoy pizza and drinks, do your cake and gifts, etc. North Beach also has a fully licensed restaurant and patio on site. Just sayin'.

Two things they didn't have back when we birthday partied there were a bouncy castle and bouncy maze, with climbing and slides. But these are now available to add to your birthday (or other event) package.
Set up for racing. Boo beat me, but not by much. I was way more exhausted though!!
I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it.
In addition to being available for rentals, leagues and drop-in play, North Beach offers instructional sessions, including their 9-week Youth Academy. Kids ages 8-15 wanting to learn the sport can sign up for these 90 minute lessons over 9 weeks, either Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings. North Beach’s volleyball lesson plan focuses on teaching and playing with students by using positive reinforcement. Participants practice with drills designed to be fun, skillfully challenging to all levels, and to demonstrate how much they can improve with their own effort and determination. Twice a session, a Skills Test is performed to show the students how much they have developed. At the end of the session, a mini tournament is held based on game play and special drills.

If you are interested in checking out this facility, drop by for their Family Day Carnival, Monday, February 16th from noon-4pm. There'll be family volleyball lessons, volleyball games, rock climbing, inflatables, sand games and more. Admission is $10 + tax per person (includes hot dog) or $40 + tax for family of 4 or more. Maybe you'll even decide to sign your kids up for North Beach's March Break or Summer Camps for kids ages 8-15.  There are many options, all with a great dose of fun, physical activity, and memories of warmer months!
