In the winter months we tend to watch a lot more TV and movies. Cuddled on the couch with a blanket and hot chocolate, ignoring the cold and snow outside, that's how you'll often find us on a January or February Saturday afternoon. Being a family of geeks, we tend to gravitate toward things like Star Wars, Dr. Who, or Lord of the Rings, and, although Boo is happy with these, it's nice to have options specifically geared to our geeky kids as well.
"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is an animated series, executive produced by George Lucas, that covers the period between Episodes II and III in the Star Wars universe. During this period, the Jedi, along with their Clone Trooper allies, are engaged in a struggle to protect the Republic against the Separatists and their droid army led by Count Dooku and the evil General Grievous. Boo and his friends have been enjoying this series since even before they had watched the Star Wars movies. The episodes are well-made and the stories are strong and entertaining.
For the true fan, episode collections are available on DVD/Blu-Ray as well, and we recently received the newest addition for review. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions includes 16 episodes, for more than 4 hours of family entertainment. The only downside to that? It was difficult to convince Boo to stop watching for the day. He was ready to binge-watch the entire Blu-Ray, he liked it so much.
Synopsis: Against a backdrop of ever-shifting loyalties, uneasy alliances and ancient hostilities, the conflict between the Republic and the Separatists ramps up, setting the stage for Darth Sidious’ ultimate act of treachery against the Jedi. In these uncertain times, some of the deepest mysteries of the light and dark sides of the Force are revealed as an intrepid clone trooper uncovers a shocking conspiracy, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits, and Master Yoda makes a discovery that could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy.
This is a great find for the young Star Wars fan, with lots of intrigue and excitement. And it's well-written enough to appeal to parents as well. We recommend!
