Enjoy Winter in Canada's Rockies #WinterLust #ExploreAlberta

I am trying to make an effort to enjoy winter. I mean, we're Canadian, right? Winter is like our birthright.  I know I loved this season as a child, so I wonder when that changed? Maybe when I started having to shovel the driveway. Maybe when I moved somewhere so much colder than my home in St. John's.  But since we're here and it's going to happen year after year, we might as well embrace it!

For the lover of winter sports and adventures, the Canadian Rockies certainly have a lot to offer. A few years ago I attended a conference in Banff and was really blown away by the mountains and the gorgeous scenery. It was early May, so I didn't get the full-on winter experience, but there was snow. A number of my colleagues brought their skis and took advantage of downtime to hit the slopes. Myself, I did some hiking and soaked in the hot springs.

I've never been a fan of the idea of hurling myself down the side of a mountain, but I know so many friends who adore skiing and snowboarding. They are great family winter activities, and Alberta certainly has the mountains for it!

This looks both terrifying and exhilarating. Would you try extreme ice climbing? I think I might ...

Of course, you could just enjoy the incredible mountain vistas on a nice family hike or snowshoeing adventure. Or perhaps take a helicopter tour?

And it doesn't get more Canadian than pond hockey.

Tubing is a bit more my speed, although it's super fast as well. I like that I'm closer to the ground!

I loved my visit to the Hot Springs when I was in Banff. It's a definite must-do if you're in the area. Sitting outside in this amazing, natural, hot pool and enjoying the view of the mountains along with the fresh mountain air. Amazing!
