How Can the Meta Effect Help You Reach Your Wellness Goals? #MetaEffect #PGMom #Giveaway

I may not be the most healthy person around, and I'm certainly not the most active. But I do try my best to make good choices and listen to my body. I'm proud to report that I've been doing great with drinking more water, for example. I recently had a massage treatment and the therapist even commented on how well hydrated my skin was! Made my day.

This time of year I find it even easier to make good health choices, with great weather for active outdoor fun and wonderful fresh produce available for meals and snacks, but I need to get into good habits that will help me reach my health and wellness goals year-round. My water intake alone just doesn't cut it!

Dietary fibre is another key component of a healthy diet and body, and not just for keeping you regular. The Mayo Clinic confirms that dietary fibre aids in regulating blood sugar, lowering cholesterol, and helping you to register the feeling of fullness that will help you avoid overeating. You can find great sources of fibre in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, as well as in supplements such as Metamucil®.

Metamucil® has recently partnered with celebrity trainer and nutritionist Harley Pasternack to launch a program supporting Canadians on their wellness journey.  Harley is offering tips and advice for healthy living on www.MetaEffect.ca, as well as ways to incorporate more psyllium fibre, the naturally sourced dietary fibre found in Metamucil®, into your diet. Those on their own wellness journey are encouraged to visit the Metamucil® Canada Facebook page and share their own personal tips on how they are putting The Meta Effect into practice.

I've been checking out Harley's list of 13 ways to experience "The Meta Effect," and getting some good ideas. Number 7 though may take some convincing with the rest of the family - The Kitchen Clean Out: "Purge your cabinets of cookies, chips, and fatty meals. Move Meta from the medicine cabinet to the kitchen, then stock up on fresh fruits, veggies and whole grains." Hmm. We're actually not doing too badly here, and the boys in particular love snacking on grapes and carrot sticks. But we still like a salty chip treat or some ice cream. Maybe in moderation?

One of the easier suggestions is to add a scoop or two of Metamucil® to your morning smoothie, or one of your many daily glasses of water. The fibre will help you feel full to avoid snacking, and provide you with all those fibre benefits mentioned above.

In addition to his new partnership with Metamucil®, Harley has also launched a new book, 5 Pounds: The Breakthrough 5-Day Plan to Jump-Start Rapid Weight Loss (and Never Gain It Back!). The book outlines five daily habits for shedding those last few stubborn pounds or jump starting a more significant weight-loss effort. One of the five habits focuses on the importance of protein and fibre as key pillars to a healthy diet.

I am looking forward to diving into this book as I like the idea of creating "habits," rather than following a "diet." Changing the way I feed my body and how I approach overall wellness is a much better way to gradually and safely drop the weight (I have 15 pounds to go) and keep it off.  Addressing my appetite and working to keep my body's functions moving smoothly with added fibre seems very do-able for me.
