Let's End the Stigma #BellLetsTalk

Today, Jan. 27, 2016, is #BellLetsTalk Day. It's a day to open up the discussion and ease the stigma of mental illness. It's a great day to share our own stories of struggle, hope, survival, and even tragedy. And a great day for others to listen to those stories and really hear them. The more we talk about Mental Health, the more we make talking about it acceptable. The more we make it acceptable to admit that you suffer from depression, or anxiety, or schizophrenia, or any of the long list of conditions covered under that umbrella. The more we make it not scary to make those admissions.

My friend Alex has collected a list of posts on mental health issues, and is adding to it all day at her space on the web - I Don't Blog. I encourage you to check out the list (and her blog generally, because she's an amazing writer). Two of my own posts are included in the list, both published on #BellLetsTalk Days - one in 2013 when I was struggling, and one in 2015 when I was doing much better, but my depression still likes to raise its ugly head from time to time.

Today, Bell Canada will donate 5 cents more to mental health initiatives for every:
  • Text message sent (on their network)
  • Mobile & long distance call made (on their network)
  • Tweet using #BellLetsTalk
  • Share of the Facebook image

Such an easy way to help - just join in the conversation. Let's Talk! And not just today - every day!
