Don't Let Your Skin Give You Away - Olay #BeAgeless

You know how at carnivals and such they'll often have people who try to guess your age or your weight, and if they are wrong you get a prize? They can be pretty intimidating, right? Well, I've drummed up the courage to face the potential public embarrassment twice now - once last year and once the year before, at The Ex.

The first time I asked the guy to guess my weight. I felt all cocky, thinking I camouflaged my weight pretty well with my careful fashion choices. Nope. He got me right to the pound. Hmm. So this past year I went for age. Guess what? She was way off, on the good side, for the record. Made my day :) (Boo was just happy to get the stuffy.)

But then again, I am often told I look younger than I am. I attribute it to a combination of things - great genes, my skin care regime, and likely my immaturity youthful attitude as well.  Most days I don't feel my full 45 years (46 next Wednesday!), although on others I'm exhausted or my arthritis is acting up and I feel about 90. For me, age is just a number. I have never let it determine who I am or what I can or can't do. Having others look at me and peg me younger than I am? That's a bonus of what I believe is a healthy attitude and approach to life.

And apparently I am not alone in this attitude. Did you know that Canadian women no longer feel defined by their chronological age? In fact, 90% believe that age will continue to become less relevant over time. In December, Olay unveiled their Ageless program – an initiative that explores how Canadian women and their counterparts around the globe think about aging and expectations when it comes to beauty

As part of this campaign, Olay is encouraging women to share their age ‘giveaways’ (e.g., having a teenager, the type of music they listen to, their dance moves, etc.). They have a series of videos on YouTube to support the campaign. Here's one of them I can relate to:

Having a teenager generally is a bit of a giveaway. My eldest is 20 now, and when folks hear that they often refuse to believe me. Now, for the record, he is my step-son, but that's irrelevant in this case. I am well within the range of possibility for having birthed a child in 1995!

Pop culture references can also be a big giveaway. In a mixed age group my particular demographic will quickly become clear, and it has surprised folks in the past. I didn't listen to Hanson or watch Saved By the Bell. I listened to Adam & the Ants and watched Love Boat. When I hear, "But you don't look like you're in your 40s!" I always respond with, "It's the Oil of Olay." Which also dates me of course, because, seriously, it hasn't been called that in years. But I've used Olay products ever since I can remember, as my mom did before me. And I trust them to care for my skin and keep it looking healthy and young.

Head over to the Olay Canada Facebook page and see more of these "giveaway" videos. And while you're there you can join the #BeAgeless conversation and share your own age giveaways on their wall.
