I've been noticing the conversation changing of late. Whether protecting our daughters from negative and dangerous messaging or empowering ourselves, there has been a strong reaction against the popular promotion of unattainable beauty standards, "dietainment," and body shaming of any kind. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and being healthy and comfortable in that body is way more important than getting to a particular size or perfecting your bikini-ready booty.
My body may be a lot softer than it was in my 20s, and I've let my muscles go for sure. But my body grew a baby, and it can still lift his 60 pounds up onto my hip. I may have some arthritic joints, but with the proper precautions I can still walk or garden for hours at a time and enjoy playing outdoors with my kid and my dog. I could be more fit, but I am proud of my body and what it has and can accomplish.
Penningtons is a proud advocate of body diversity and size acceptance, and they've released a new #IWontCompromise YouTube video campaign today. The movement celebrates doing what you love, wearing what makes you feel good, and being who you are without compromise. Sounds good to me. As actions speak louder than words, this campaign looks to show society that a body, no matter what size, is capable of anything. Stigmas and stereotypes do nothing but hinder potential and happiness.
Don't underrate yourself. Try new things. Do what makes you happy. Be strong and confident. And please watch this video. This gal is great!
Would I be uncomfortable doing yoga next to this gal? Well, maybe a little. But only because she is so much stronger and more balanced than me! She could definitely teach me a thing or two.
Pennington's invites everyone to participate in this conversation and share their stories of strength, happiness and inspiration. Use the hashtag #IWontCompromise and connect with them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
