To quote Boo, "I love all the LEGO Star Wars shows! They are always so hilarious!"
He's right, you know. They do a super job on these, and "Droid Tales" is no exception. This one is particularly fun, as it tells the stories of the first 6 Star Wars movies from the perspective of R2-D2 and C-3PO.
It all begins where Episode 6 ends, at the party with the Ewoks on Endor. Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca are amazed that the droids have been there through it all, and ask C-3PO to tell them the tales. Of course, we know his memory has been wiped, so that presents a problem. Until R2-D2 miraculously produces a hard drive with his old memories stored, intact. How fortuitous that he kept it safe, hey?
There's a new story here as well though, as R2-D2 is kidnapped and his buddy, C-3PO, heads out on an adventure to find and rescue him. During his travels he encounters old and new friends, who all want to hear his tales of glory and excitement and defeating the evil empire.
So many jokes for both parents and kids to enjoy, including a lot of poking fun at things we "should have known" from the movies. The Chancellor/Darth Sidious/Emperor is given an especially predominant ongoing joke, although we also see a funny (and obvious) change for Queen Amidala/Padme. And watch for fun-poking at the often maligned Jar Jar Binks.
Loved this. Watched all 5 episodes back-to-back, for 115 minutes of great family entertainment. "LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales" is available now on DVD. You can grab a copy at Amazon.ca for the special price of $16.97 (affiliate link).
This would be a great addition to any Easter basket this year :)
