Espuna Tapas Essentials is a new brand to Canada, but has been around since 1947, when founder Esteve Espuna began producing sausages using traditional recipes in Catalonia. Over they years they expanded both geographically and with new products, now offering a wide range of cured meats, sausages, and sliced cold meats. The company focuses on producing regionally inspired cured meats, with authentic Spanish taste for a true tapas experience.

This is perfectly aged and delicious.
What is "tapas"? According to Espuna, "tapas" is a Spanish word, originally meaning "cover" or "lid." This refered to a slice of meat or bread used to cover your wine glass to keep out the dust of dirt roads. Today, "tapas" refers to an appetizer or light meal, generally enjoyed with drinks. My favourite way to eat!
Espuna produces a variety of ready to serve and heat & serve tapas, including regionally inspired salamis, canitas (like pepperettes), skewers, small sausages, and even bacon wrapped dates. The grown-ups at our table enjoyed sampling the various salami styles, along with some crusty bread and cheese. The kids went for the canitas - sticks of yummy cured meat that are easy to hold and eat on the run.

My recommendation - try these out. We loved the flavours, and the ease of serving. Lay out a spread of these meats alongside some olives, cheese and bread, and you'll have a great Tapas adventure for your holiday entertaining.
Espuna Tapas Essentials are available in Metro stores throughout Ontario as well as Longo's Markets.
