Finding Confidence with Poise Impressa #LiveWithoutLeaks

As you know, I've been trying out Poise Impressa Bladder Supports, to see if they can help me deal with my "little leaks." For a few years now I've been experiencing Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), meaning that sometimes when pressure is suddenly applied to my bladder, some urine leaks out. That pressure can come from something as simple as coughing or sneezing, or as unusual as trampolining. As I found out last January when I took Boo and his friend to a trampoline park for his birthday. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to buy myself a pass too, but I did. I wanted to try it. And I lasted I think three jumps before I felt that funny feeling. Wet. Eep! Thankfully I was wearing black leggings and a long top. I quickly removed myself and watched from the sidelines for the rest of their time.

Things like trampolining are pretty easy to avoid, although Boo keeps asking for a trampoline in the back yard, and I'd love to make that happen for him. I'd just need a little help if I were to get on there with him. And meanwhile, sneezing and coughing, even sometimes laughing, have to be dealt with. So, maybe Impressa is my answer?

Before I go any further, I want to direct you to my earlier post introducing you to Poise Impressa, and explaining a bit more about SUI and its prevalence. If you haven't read that one, I encourage you to check it out for the full background.

My initial reaction to Poise Impressa is that I appreciate it addresses the problem BEFORE it happens. Impressa is about preventing leaks from happening, not just protecting your clothes once they do. If your particular type of Light Bladder Leakage is SUI, then this is a great choice for you to try. That is, if you experience leaks when you sneeze/cough/jump/etc., this product can help. If you experience the leakage when you have a sudden, rush need to pee, then you have a different type of LBL, one that Poise Impressa can't help.

So, I have SUI. My first step was to grab the sizing kit and try a Size 1. The Poise Impressa Sizing Kit retails for $9.99 and gives you two each of the 3 sizes. Start small, if you no longer experience leaks, that's your size. If you still leak, move up to Size 2, and so on. I tried these during that horrible cold a couple weeks ago, with the cough that wouldn't end. Size 1 did not do the job for me. I still experienced some leaking when I coughed my horrible deep cough. So, the next day I moved up to Size 2, and that did the job! I was quite impressed that I could cough with the Size 2 Poise Impressa in place, and NOT LEAK! I didn't have any more second thoughts about leaving the house with this cough, knowing my leaks were stopped in their tracks.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, Poise Impressa is inserted into the vagina via an applicator, like a tampon. It is non-absorbent. It works by providing support under the urethra, applying physical pressure to stop any potential leaks. That's a job that in my earlier years the muscles in that area used to do, when they were still working to their full potential.

I found Poise Impressa comfortable to insert, and honestly didn't know I was wearing it once it was in. I should note that I have been using tampons for decades, so the whole process is familiar to me. But in any case, this is a discreet and comfortable product that won't be felt when inserted properly. I wear tampons because I don't like the feel of pads, or the odours they can harbour. Poise Impressa now gives me an alternative to the LBL pads I've used in the past. I can wear what I want, knowing the inserted bladder support won't ever show, and having found my size, I have confidence my SUI is under control.

Now, I should point out that this is not something you are going to wear 24/7/365. Poise recommends the Poise Impressa can be worn for up to 8 hours in a 24 hour period. This will be a tool in my arsenal that I bring out on an as-needed basis. Going to a fancy party where I'll likely be laughing and having a great time in a nice outfit? Poise Impressa. Going anywhere during a chest cold or sneezy allergy season? Yep. Maybe I'll even try trampolining again :) And I bet this would be great for aerobics or the like, if one were so inclined to do that.
