Comfort and Support with Svelte Shapewear {Review & Giveaway}

I know I am supposed to love my body and its curves, be proud of its strength to carry a child, etc. And I do. I love it a lot, even - or maybe especially - when I'm in my birthday suit. This body has served me well, and I think it looks pretty darn good. But many times the clothes I also love just don't hang so well over those curves. They in fact grab onto them and give particular definition to the curves and rolls of my belly. This is generally not the look I'm going for.

So, I love my body, but I also love my shapewear. Or at least most of my shapewear, because it isn't all created equal, and I have had a few pieces over the years that really haven't done their job well at all. I like to keep an eye open for new options that will cinch in and smooth out my middle, while not squashing my less-than-ample cleavage. I may have a new favourite!

Recently I tried out the Slim Me Down Tank Top from Svelte.

For the record, this is not me. It's a product shot from the website.
The Slim Me Down has two control panels: one under the arms to smooth out your back, and the second around your torso to keep your tummy in check. So it handles two common problem areas for many women. What I especially like about this piece is its length. It is longer than any other shapewear I've tried, and it hugs your hips. Very important for me - it does not ride up. The Slim Me Down tank stayed in place and performed really well through an entire day of wear, with lots of movement, sitting, standing, and driving.

I did make an attempt to get you some visual proof of the slimming capabilities of this tank, but I couldn't get a good shot on my own. But trust me, I was pleased with the results. Of course, this is shapewear, not a corset. I didn't go down two sizes, but the tank did a great job of holding my tummy in and smoothing out the lumpy bits. I was comfortable wearing a form-fitting dress to meetings that first day, and the tank allowed me to zip up my pencil skirt on another day. Plus, it was comfortable. The fabric is soft, and fit is firm and supportive, but not constricting.

These tanks are made with a cotton spandex knit fabric, so they are breathable. They can be machine washed in cold water, or hand washed, and hung to dry. Do not ruin your shapewear by putting it in the dryer! I hand washed mine with delicates detergent and hung to dry. It kept its shape and wore well again the next day.

The Slim Me Down Tank Top is available in black or white for $71 CAD, and comes in sizes S/M/L/XL (equivalent sizes 2-16). I wear a ize 12, and the Large was perfect for me. ShopSvelte provides free shipping on orders over $100.
